The Feeling Only a Mother Would Know

by Tiffany Rodriguez

Hearing the sound pounding like echoes

Echoes, like the whales might hear in the ocean

We knew before this sound, yet I knew before that

The feeling in your heart things will soon grow

The feeling only a mother would know

Spending everyday imagining your traits

Preparing your place to stay, waiting for that day

Holding the world in your arms, scared yet so in love

The feeling in your heart things will soon grow

The feeling only a mother would know

Letting you take in the world; you want to learn it all

Always wanting to run even if you fall

Reaching out for support, yet you need no escort

The feeling in your heart that things will soon grow

The feeling only a mother would know

Reading, writing and arithmetic; this child is energetic

Trusting your teachers with you, missing you though I get through

You're so smart growing and learning, now you need me less and it's concerning.

The feeling in your heart things will grow soon

The feeling only a mother would know

Today you become you own person; I am proud that is for certain

Time was always against us, but you will always be mine

No distance nor time stops a mother loving her hardest, for her love reaches the farthest

The feeling in your heart things will grow soon

The feeling only a mother would know
