Submissions

Please read the submission guidelines before submitting your work for consideration in Aries! You will find the link to the official Aries submission form at the bottom of this page.

Eligibility:

  • Entrants must be enrolled as a student at Texas Wesleyan University at the time of submission.

  • Aries is not open to faculty, staff, alumni, or anyone who is not a currently enrolled Texas Wesleyan student.

  • Entries not submitted according to the guidelines may not be considered.

Categories: fiction short stories, poetry, personal essays, academic essays, visual art (drawing, photography, painting, ceramics, etc.), drama, and music. Please see the guidelines specific to your genre on the submission form.

Entries:

  • All work must be the student's original, unpublished work. In other words, no fanfiction, no cover songs (or anything along those lines in any medium), no AI, and nothing you have published in another venue.

  • All creative pieces must have a title; no “untitled” submissions.

  • All published work will be published with the creator’s name. We will not publish work attributed to “anonymous.” You may use a pen name.

  • Editors will judge submissions anonymously. Your name and/or identifying information must not appear anywhere in the file you submit. Again, entries that do not follow these guidelines may not be considered.

  • Students may submit entries in as many categories as desired.

  • Students may submit up to 3 items in each category except visual art, for which students may submit up to 6 items.

  • When you submit your work for consideration, you grant Aries one-time publication rights for both paper and online formats. This means that if you publish the work somewhere else, you must acknowledge Aries as the first place of publication.

  • When you submit your work for consideration, you grant the Aries staff the right to make minor editorial changes as necessary.

  • Aries reserves the right to quote or display work accepted for publication in order to promote the magazine in flyers, advertisements, and other materials.

  • Editorial decisions regarding inclusion in the publication are final.

  • Submissions are welcome year-round. Aries is published once per academic year.

  • The deadline for inclusion for the 2024-2025 issue is March 15, 2025.

Ethics Statement:
Aries is a platform for art and creative expression. We welcome any subject matter your work explores with depth and authenticity. It is okay to use curse words in your writing. However, we will not accept work that relies on excessive shock value, which includes inappropriately graphic violence and/or blatant pornography. We will not accept work that is offensive (racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, etc.) We recommend that you take extra care if you are writing about characters whose identities you do not share (example: you are not a person of color but one of your characters is). We recommend that you intentionally engage with art and literature created by people whose identities differ from your own, and that you work to gain awareness of harmful tropes in storytelling so that you can avoid them.

Publication and Prizes:

The works selected for publication in Aries will be published online and in print. An honorarium will be awarded to the best submission in each category. Editors' decisions are final.

How to Submit:

Please use the official Aries submission form to submit your work! You must be logged into your Texas Wesleyan student account to use the form. Please submit one form for each submission.
